For the Foundation, the partnership allowsus to address multiple concerns related to college success andamplifies our impact via a single group focus. Additionally, thiscontinues a tradition established at Trinity Lutheran College ofpartnering with Act Six. What is a Cadre of Act Six students you ask?Good question!
ActSix, an initiative of Degrees of Change, is Tacoma-Seattle’s onlyfull-tuition, full-need urban leadership award. Working with fivefaith-based colleges in the Northwest, Act Six connects students fromunderserved communities who demonstrate high-achievement despite themultitude of obstacles they face. These are students who excel inschool, community service, demonstrate a drive to succeed in life,and are ready to give back to their community. The students attendschool as a Cadre working together to support each other throughouttheir undergraduate journey with an emphasis on leadership andservice.
SaintMartin’s University (SMU), a private Benedictine liberal artsuniversity founded in 1895, is embarking on their first journey withAct Six and a cadre of seven students. SMU focuses on the Benedictinevirtue of hospitality expressed in the engaging way every individualis welcomed to the campus. The mission of the school includesempowering students to pursue a lifetime of learning andaccomplishment in all arenas of human endeavor. All faiths arewelcomed at SMU with an open invitation to participate in the dailyand/or weekly activities of the Monks who reside at the SaintMartin’s Abbey. Prior to graduation all students are required tocomplete the Benedictine Leadership Program with a focus oninstilling the ability to reflect deeply on personal values and actwith personal integrity and moral courage.
TheSMU Act Six Cadre are part of our flagship Trinity Scholars Program.Not only do they receive a full-ride scholarship for up tofour-years, they will receive professional coaching and vocationalguidance throughout their undergraduate journey. Working inconjunction with Act Six and SMU, the Foundation will provide bothpractical and spiritual direction as each student embarks on a uniquejourney through group engagement.
